The app itself allows users to create lip-sync videos, re-enact their favourite scenes from movies with filters, music and an array of features.

Who’s watching TikTok?

TikTok has a younger audience than most social networks, perhaps even younger than Snapchat, although the founders don’t want to admit it. A report here suggests that 60% of the audience is 16-24 although this doesn’t account for under 16 which can’t be identified due to data capture purposes.

Who should I follow?

The best celebrity TikTok accounts you should be following right now are Lewis Capaldi, Ed Sheeran and Rita Ora.

What else do I need to know?

Beyond the obvious celebrities there are a host of new TikTok stars being born in the UK. These guys have much bigger followings and even greater engagement due to their viral content.

As things stand, success for brands on TikTok comes from product placement, branding, viral content, influencers and soft-selling techniques. Paid advertising is a new thing on the network and brands are still finding out what they can achieve with the products TikTok provides.
